A Survey on Windows-based Ransomware Taxonomy and Detection Mechanisms

Ransomware remains an alarming threat in the 21st century. It has evolved from being a simple scare tactic into complex malware capable of evasion. Formerly, end-users were targeted via mass infection campaigns. Nevertheless, recent years, attackers have focused on attacks, since latter are profitable and can induce severe damage. A vast number detection mechanisms been proposed literature. We provide systematic review ransomware countermeasures starting its deployment victim machine until ransom payment cryptocurrency. define four stages this attack: Delivery, Deployment, Destruction, Dealing. Then, we assign corresponding for each phase attack cluster them by techniques used. Finally, propose roadmap researchers to fill gaps found literature ransomware’s battle.
